vihuela, lute, theorbo, guitars
Director of Orphénica Lyra
José Miguel Moreno is one of the top leading specialists of
historical plucked string instruments. Co-founder of Glossa, he
has before recorded with Teresa Berganza for Philips and with
Hespèrion XX for Astrée. Concerts, masterclasses and conferences
have taken him all over the world, including America and
Australia. With his Ensemble La Romanesca he has recorded two
CDs for Glossa. In 1998 he founded a new group, Orphénica Lyra,
which focuses on the Spanish repertoire of the Renaissance and
Baroque.
His
groundbreaking album for Glossa,
The Spanish Guitar (1536-1836),
is the best-seller of our label, with nearly 30,000 copies sold
so far.
With his wife,
Lourdes Uncilla, Moreno is doing extensive research on the
building of ancient instruments of the lute and guitar family,
which can be heard brought into practice on all his recordings
for Glossa. Recent discoveries include the use of the 'théorbe
de pièces' for the solo repertoire in French Baroque.
