A chamber music ensemble that reaches beyond the narrow confines of traditional stylistic genres.

In the space of only a few years Vienna clarinet connection has developed into a renowned chamber music group that is increasingly in demand internationally.

“Four individuals and at the same time one single entity of the highest musical quality” was how one music critic put it.

Immense virtuosity, creativity and joie de vivre are the hallmarks of this young quartet which comprises two clarinets, a basset-horn and a bass clarinet.

The group’s original inspiration was the desire for a totally new chamber music concept.

“It was our wish to combine all the various musical styles we grew up with and feel emotionally attached to in one programme.” Multifaceted and perfectionist, the ensembles interpretative influences metamorphose into original compositions whilst existing works are influenced anew.

A truly kaleidoscopic repertoire ranges from Bach to Bartok and from full score to free improvisation - performances are characterised by strength and depth of expression, virtuosity and a lot of good fun.

Vienna clarinet connection is a musical event of international stature, as witnessed at the Rheingau Festival, the Carinthischer Sommer and many other international musical festivals.

Further afield the group has already toured (Spain, Germany, Turkey, Poland, Norway, Finland, Sweden,...)

Helmut Hödl  -Clarinet and componer-

In 1993 he was appointed principal clarinettist of the Orchestra of the Vienna Volksoper and has been teaching at the Josef Haydn Conservatory in Eisenstadt since 1998. He has made guest appearances with the Bachkollegium of Stuttgart, the Woodwind Ensemble of the Salzburg Mozart week also in the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic orchestras. Since 1996 Helmut Hödl has been in increasing demand as a composer and has several commissions to his name, including “Britten and the British” written for the Jeunesse Musical

Rupert Fankhauser  -Clarinet-

He was appointed principal clarinettist of the Municipal Theatre of Klagenfurt and of the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra in 1985. At the same time he worked as principal clarinettist of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra.

He  has worked on tour with both the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic orchestras as appearing as a soloist with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra del Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano….

Hubert Salmhofer - Bassett horn-

He is a member of the staff of the Graz Music Academy and the specialist music school in Oberschützen.

 He has played Frank Zappa with "Chris der Berg und die Unverbrauchten" and appears frequently with the Austrian Folk-Blues band “Drumherum”. He has also worked on CD productions with the Irish pop singer Zena.

Wolfgang Kornberger  -Bass clarinet-

He was worked professionally with all of Vienna’s major orchestras on a regular basis

He was a member of trio clarin from 1994-98 and since 1994 has been working as arranger for both trio clarin and vienna clarinet connection.

He is currently collaborating with the Tatz Company on the development of a new bass clarinet.

Helmut Hödl (clarinete, compositor, arreglista)
Es Clarinete Solista de la Ópera de Viena. Ha actuado como invitado en el Bachkollegim de Stuttgart, el Woodwind Ensemble en la Semana de Mozart en Salzburgo, así como en las orquestas filarmónicas de Viena y de Berlín. Es catedrático del Conservatorio J. Haydn de Eisenstadt y está muy solicitado como compositor.

Rupert Fankhauser (clarinete)
Catedrático de Clarinete de la Universidad de Viena y clarinetista solista de la Staat Oper de Klagengurt y de Viena. Ha realizado giras tanto con las orquestas filarmónicas de Viena como de Berlín, y ha actuado como solista con la Orquesta del Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano y la Sinfónica de Ciudad del Cabo.

Hubert Salmhofer (corno di bassetto)
Catedrático de la Hochschule de Graz y del Oberschützen. Ha tocado con frecuencia en todos los países de Centro Europa como miembro de la Orquesta de Juventudes Gustav Mahler bajo la dirección de Claudio Abbado. Es un solista extremadamente versátil que está siendo solicitado por numerosos conjuntos y orquestas de prestigio. En la actualidad toca con la Orquesta Sinfónica de la Radio austríaca, el Volksoper de Viena, así como la Orquesta de Cámara de Viena.

Wolfgang Kornberger (clarinete bajo)
Ha sido miembro de las principales orquestas de Viena. Wolfgang trabaja frecuentemente en conjuntos sinfónicos y de cámara, es miembro del “Trío Clarín” y trabaja como arreglista. Dedica una gran parte de su tiempo a la enseñanza e imparte clases tanto de clarinete normal y de clarinete bajo.
